Containers for Change is a Queensland Government initiative to reduce litter and increase recycling. The scheme encourages Queenslanders to exchange our empty drink containers for 10c each at a container refund point. The scheme allows charities like us to receive a virtual donation. The Bodhgaya Development Association receives the refund payment, your donation, via an electronic fund transfer (EFT) when you provide our scheme ID at a collection point.
It’s so easy! Just follow these steps!!
- Collect eligible containers.
Find out which containers are eligible for a refund under the Containers for Change scheme on the Queensland Government’s website.
- Return your containers to a collection point.
Not all collection points are the same. Refer to the Where can I return? page for details of your nearest and the different types of container refund points.
Ensure your collection point has an EFT via Scheme ID payment method.
- Donate your refund to us
The good thing is, when you donate your refund payment it will not be necessary to login and register yourself online with the scheme. All you will need to do is provide our BDA Scheme ID: C10038530.
Some Operators, such as Envirobank and TOMRA have their own loyalty program scheme, and charities they partner with. You can still donate to us at their Drop-offs (bag it, tag it, drop) collection points using our scheme ID. If you are unsure, please call the facility first or ask for help when you get there.
Thank you for supporting the Bodhgaya Development Association and for helping to clean-up the environment.
For more information: look up a container bar code on the How it works page of the Containers for Change website. See the full list of inclusions and exclusions (PDF, 52KB).
Refer to the Where can I return? page for details of your nearest and the different types of container refund points. This will include the;
- name of the Operator;
- address;
- opening hours;
- type of container refund point (Drop-offs, Over-the-counter depots, reverse vending machine, mobile and pop-up refund points);
- payment method, and;
- contact details.
Be sure that the containers are empty and have the caps off.
At most bag drop off locations, you can use any recyclable plastic bag, or a re-useable bag (such as onion bags or those supplied in shopping centres). All bags need to be securely fastened or closed. Some container refund points may supply suitable bags. Check your collection point to see what they require.
