FINDING A TRANSFORMATION OF VIEW

We often express the same or similar views time after time. Are we stuck? Are we living in re-action, namely repeating the past. Fixed views about self and other reinforce our identification with views.

We have the potential to transform our view of any situation. At times, we know the old view obscures clarity. Yet, a transformed view seems beyond our reach. There is a challenge to live with not knowing while exploring a vital need for transformation.

We can find fresh views around relationships, work, sickness, family, emotions, spirituality and much more.

The evening will consist of a talk, questions and answers, plus small groups for sharing of experiences.

Christopher Titmuss, a former Buddhist monk, travels to three continents a year offering teachings. He is the author of 20 books addressing a wide variety of spiritual issues. Poet and social critic, he lives in Totnes, Devon, England. www.christophertitmuss.org

From little things big things grow … the story of gifting and up-cycling laptop bags

Here is one of those touching stories that resonate with me and others when we visited BG in September. Each person in my group of 14 was allocated 7kg of communal luggage  (consisting mainly of school resources and at least 6 laptop bags). A former IT colleague from St Aidan’s where I had been teaching for many years, had rung me in January and informed me that 430 laptop bags were to be sent to landfill. He asked if I wanted them for the school or projects in India (http://www.bdainc.org.au/). I had no idea how to get them there but of course couldn’t allow for them to end up in landfill with so many other useful and perfectly fine things. So I loaded up my ‘people mover’ to move these bags and have been storing them (much to the dismay of my fellow householders) in various places at home. We then took nearly 90 laptop bags over in September. Some went to PVSchool (http://www.pvschool.in/)so that children don’t have to sit on the concrete floor but the majority went to one of the other projects the BDA supports run by Kailash from Jeevan Deep (https://www.facebook.com/JeevanDeepBodhgayaNGO/). The children in the village just 25 mins drive away from Bodhgaya are very poor and disadvantaged and have probably never in their life been given something they call their own. The smiles and faces of these children told more than words can tell …When they received these bags (which they can now sit on or simply use as a very fancy school bag), they drew pictures, some wrote their names on them and put these in the label sleeve pocket of the bags – a very prized ‘possession’.
